Now a Commercial Break from our Wedding Programming...

Nosh Disorder Survival Kit:

So as everyone has learned by now, Marc and I are very likely to get into shenanigans on any given weekend no matter the circumstances. On a recent weekend Marc and I were going to Marin County to meet our friends Jenny and Josh for a hike and a picnic lunch. So we packed up a cooler and some noshes (aka snacks) and loaded up the Jeep and headed to Marin. When we got there Jenny and Josh were already there, hiding out in the car because it was freezing and rainy. Jenny and Josh are getting married at the end of June and Jenny was getting over a cold so we nixed the hiking idea and instead went to Sausalito for some brunch.

So the point of this story is; here we have a Jeep full of noshes and beverages, a full tank of gas, our bellies are full with good food, and suddenly the world is our oyster. After brunch we were on the other side of the bay and we found a Bed Bath and Beyond (BB&B) in Larkspur. We headed up that way to use our 20 coupons to complete our towel collection. (Clearly another shenanigan story completely.) After 2 hours of shenanigans in BB&B we had a bit of the Nosh Disorder. Now Nosh Disorder is nothing to be taken lightly, it can result in crankiness, bickering, and full out fighting. And usually ends in me not talking to Marc for several hours. But never fear we had our Nosh Disorder Survival Kit. After BB&B we had a little beverage (Vitawater), some strawberries, Skittles and some popped corn we had picked up from Target earlier that morning and we were ready for more. It was like an awakening to us, we were able to hit up Crate and Barrel Outlet in Berkeley (without directions) after BB&B and still had energy.

The next day furniture shopping was on the agenda so with our Nosh Survival Kit in tow, we again packed up the Jeep and hit a full day of furniture hunting with no side effects of Nosh Disorder. We can extend shenanigans by a full 3 to 4 hours with our kit. We now vow to never leave the house without our Nosh Disorder Survival Kit!

Wedding Day

Wedding day...wow, there is so much to say but really no words to describe how I felt that day. Pretty much everything about that day was a whirlwind, I remember bits and pieces. Even writing this a month later with all this time to reflect, the emotions are so strong that is just so hard to express everything that I felt. I felt sadness that my Nana could not be there because she passed away when I was 7. I was so over joyed that my 94 year old Poppa flew to California for the wedding. I was excited to be starting the rest of my life with Marc. And I was so overcome with the love I felt by our friends and family.

Saturday morning I had to decide by 10 AM whether the wedding would be moved inside or not. I was a wreck, I was crying, and couldn't make a decision. All my life I imagined my wedding outside on the water and here it was and I had to decide to pull it inside or not. Part of me felt for our guests that I should bring it inside because it was cold out but then the selfish bride part of me still wanted it outside. My poor dad tried to make me feel better by telling me that the rain was the tears of my Nana because she couldn't be there to see me get married. That just made me cry more.

My dad and I planned to go to La Jolla Shores the morning of the wedding for the sake of old times. Some of my best memories of my childhood were when my dad would take my brother and I and one of our friends to La Jolla Shores. We would walk to the Tide Pools and he would show us all of the sea animals that came ashore with the tide; I remember holding octupus, sea cucumbers, and poking the sea anenamies (though I still can't spell it). Then we would go to Marvelous Muffins for a Cafe Au Lait and a yummy muffin. I remember those days like they were yesterday and yet somehow they seem so long ago. Well the weather and my breakdown put a delay on our departure so instead we took Homer to Peet's and had some coffee, kind of an abridged version of my childhood memory. We had some coffee while Homer slept and we chatted about what was going on. My deadline for the big decision was looming. From Peet's I called Marc and he made the decision that we were keeping the wedding outside, that looking over the ocean it was crystal clear. I now find out that Marc was too hung over to realize what I was really asking and he was really just making a comment instead of making a decision. That's my husband! The wedding planner called shortly after I got off of the phone with Marc and I gave her the news, fortunately she agreed with our decision. With that decision behind me, I was surprisingly relaxed. I felt a certain calm come over me.

After coffee, my dad dropped me off at the dress place where we met my mom and we picked up my dress and headed to the hotel to get hair and makeup done. I was surprised how calm I was all day, nothing really bothered me. I had a fun time visiting with everyone and Poppa even came by to chat with me and the girls who routinely stopped in. Here are some photos of some of the girls' hair styles:

Laura did an awsome job on everyone's hair, here's Shannon getting her hair done

Lauren Got her hair done too!

Marc was super sweet and surprised me by sending Steve (aka Steerage) in with a "Junior High Note" That said "Will you Marry Me Check One: Yes, Maybe, No." He also sent in a rose with Steve. Of course I said yes. I guess his hang over was finally gone.

After the hair was done, it was time to get into the dress. This is when it hit me, all I could say was "Holy bleep, I'm getting married right now." I got in my dress easily and then it was off to see my groom...

Last Week Single

So back to wedding recap...the week of the wedding my dad flew into Oakland, it was his first time on Southwest so it was a monumental week in more than one way. He flew up because Marc didn't want me driving to San Diego alone at night on Tuesday and he couldn't take off of work so I convinced my dad it would be like our trips to and from Indiana when I was in college, just a lot shorter. So Tuesday afternoon, I signed off of work for 2 weeks and we loaded up the car and Homer and drove to San Diego. I had to drive the whole time because we were in my company car but my dad really had it rough, Homer cried all the way to the Grapevine (about 4 hours from our house). I'm used to it but for someone who isn't it can really be trying on the ears. Now normally my sweet boy is wonderful in the car, he starts out a little bit anxious but then calms down and falls right asleep. Not this trip! Homer was upset that my dad was sitting on "his side," aka the passenger seat and he was stuck in the back. Additionally, even though I walked him before getting in the car he was so enthralled with what was going on he didn't go but as soon as we hit the road he had to go. Now when I drive to San Diego I only stop when I need gas, so poor Homer had to wait 4 hours. Once we stopped and hit the road again he was pretty good, my dad even let him sit on his lap for a while. At least he learned his lesson!
We arrived to San Diego at about 10 pm on Tuesday night and the rest of the week was sort of a blur. I worked out Wednesday - Friday in order to work off some stress but I was fairly calm. Wednesday, Anne arrived into town with her husband Doug, and their two boys Andrew and Tyler. Doug's mom, Kate, also came to help with the boys. They all came over for dinner at my parents house that night but unfortunately (for me at least, I am sure Anne and Doug were thrilled) both boys were sound asleep. Andrew slept on my bed the whole time and Tyler woke up just as we were finishing dinner and I got to hold him. He was just 2 months old at that time and he was and still is so cute!
Me and Tyler:

To my great delight, he had in a NUK pacifier! He was such a good sport for me; I got some smiles, he let me calm him when he fussed, and he even dozed off in my arms for a few. Homer was definitely jealous but he never got aggressive or where I couldn't trust him. He walked around me in circles and sniffed Tyler's head to see what this strange thing in my arms was, Anne and Doug have 2 dogs so the baby is used to dogs sniffing his head. For Homer being such a Mamma's boy, he was pretty good giving the attention over to the baby.

Thursday, I went to see Laura, my hair person for the wedding (and whom I am going to have cut my hair whenever I am San Diego) who did another run through of my hair now that it was super long and she could do my up-do. After the hair was done I headed to the Kona Kai to see Poppa and we all went to dinner. Marc had gotten into town on Thursday so after our family dinner I went and said hi to his family who were all having dinner at the hotel. I also saw the Hermans so that was fun! I was starting to get excited everything was coming together and everyone was getting into town.

Friday we met with the Cantor to go over the ceremony then it was off to get Mani/Pedi's with the girls and then to the rehearsal dinner. Friday was where I started to stress out, our wedding was planned for Saturday outside and Friday was cold, wet, and miserable and I was really starting to worry. It poured all through the rehearsal and the dinner. Pour Uncle Michael and Aunt Sandy had all these people for us and we had to move everything inside. They put on a wonderful dinner though and it was more than we could have ever hoped for.

Then it was back home for my last night as a single woman...in the meantime, Marc partied it up with my girls, I was so jealous! The big decision to pull the wedding inside would come at 10:00 am on Saturday...

True Meaning of Shenanigans

So I am going to deviate from the wedding/honeymoon topic to give everyone a wonderful example of a true Zimmerman Shenanigan. But to get the true effect, I have to quote Marc because I was not there for the entire situation, just the aftermath, as usual:

"Saturday I wanted to get a haircut since things were still in tack from my crisp cut on the cruise. I wanted to find a new person who could cut the natural neck line that the person on the cruise hooked me up with. Allie suggested I go to her salon because she has had success going there. I made an appointment with one of the girls. We went next door for lunch and came back 30 mins later. After getting back to the salon the receptionist said they had a scheduling conflict and I was going to get a haircut for the same quote they gave me $15-$20 but the owner was going to do it. Keep in mind this is a very upscale salon that has a spa built in to it.

I explained to the owner in a massive amount of detail what I was looking for including this special natural neck line that was taught to me on the cruise in the spa. I was very excited to have it and continue getting this special cut since we got back home. You see, when you don’t have much on top you learn to appreciate what you do have. Within minutes of the owner starting, I can feel this guy had no clue how to give a man’s haircut. He completely chopped the natural neck line I had grew over the past weeks. I sat there knowing he cut it and watched him ponder what to do next. In his attempt to fade the #1 on top, taper down the sides and back; instead of using a #1/2 and lower blade, he used a comb, but was “pretending” to remove hair as if I was not sitting there watching what he was doing. In my head I was like “who is this putz”?

All of a sudden during a blink of an eye he takes a sideburn buzzer and completely removes all signs of my left sideburn leaving me speechless with an expression until I got the breath to say “why in the world would you do that”? He stated that I never told him not to do that. I looked at him and said quietly “are you not the owner of this place, do you have no clue how to give a man’s haircut”? He said so… do you want me to fix it? I sat there puzzled for at least 60 seconds as he stood there looking at me. I ripped off the cape and threw it at him and said “I’m outta here”!!! On my way out the front lobby I said “Allie, we’re outta here”!!!

You see, this is how shenanigan’s start. Sometimes they just happen when we have no control of them. At this point I had to get this disaster of a haircut fixed ASAP and nothing could get done beforehand. Surprisingly enough I went to Great Clips right around the corner from my house. Who goes to Great Clips? I couldn’t believe it, they were super nice, friendly and did a wonderful job fixing my disaster cut for only $14 + $3 tip. I was very impressed and will for sure go see them next time I am due for another cut in probably 7-10 days."

And now I have to find a new hair salon!

Bridezilla

About a week or two before the wedding, I was becoming a bit of a bridezilla. All of the stress from the wedding was starting to build on me plus work was super crazy. To the rescue...my good friends Jenn and Michelle, also known as Woody and Ralsto (respectively). Woody, Ralsto and I were friends from college, we were in the same sorority, we were partners in crime and they were pretty much my drinking buddies. (Can we say Cancun?)
Anyway, Woody had never been to California so they decided to come out 1 week prior to the wedding and spend some time in the Bay Area and slowly make their way down the coast finally ending in San Diego for the wedding. They were thinking Thelma and Louise, minus the cliff. What a lifesaver these 2 were. They got in Saturday morning and came to the house to meet Homer. Then we went to Hooters for lunch with Marc (it was actually the girls who wanted to go).

The girls were tired from their early flight so Saturday we watched cheesy 80s movies (just like in college) and napped so we were fresh for our Girls Night Out. Our goal was to stay out past midnight. For dinner we hit up a new Teppanyaki place in Dublin and then Marc so graciously dropped us in downtown Pleasanton for some drinking and girl talk. We went to one bar that Marc and I had been too but it was a pretty old crowd so we made our way down to a Mexican restaurant where we had 2 pitchers of Margaritas and made fun of 2 girls there that were clearly overly wasted, sadly we were probably once those girls. Well we pretty much made it to our goal of staying out past midnight (ok, we really called Marc around 11 but we were exhausted!) Not quite the bar-closing rock stars we once were, I guess that's what being gainfully employed does to you.

After dinner:

Sunday we went to Livermore to take the girl's wine tasting, we had a blast, and again Marc was so nice enough to be the Designated Driver for us. We tried to find Wood Winery in honor of Woody and her family but ended at White Crane which was quite possibly the worst wine any of us had ever had. After that we had to redeem Livermore Valley Wines so we brought the girls to our favorite winery, Mitchell Katz, the wine as usual was amazing and very plentiful. My girls also told the wine maker that we were getting married in a week. He asked us what our favorite bottle of wine was and he gave it to us signed (even though it was the most expensive bottle on the list), we are going to drink it on our 1 year anniversary. After wine tasting we went to our $5 Chinese restaurant. Marc likes it because it is cheap and the woman who owns it calls him "boss" and "handsome." There Woody and I learned that Ralsto speaks Chinese, who knew after all these years! Here are some wine tasting photos.

The girls after lunch at Campo de Bocce:

Us outside Mitchell Katz Winery:

We had an awesome time together and the girls officially took my mind off of the wedding and work stress and let me relax and have a good time. In fact they put me in major vacation mode which made going to work Monday and Tuesday quite difficult, especially since they were in SF playing and eating Ghiradelli Chocolate.

Not that Interesting

So, I got this idea from my good friend Anne, she has been posting about her 2 boys, Andrew and Tyler, for 3 months now and I am fully addicted. Reading her Blog has actually taken over me checking my registries every 3 minutes. So now that the wedding is over (and the registries are now longer as exciting as they once were), I need a new hobby or like 10 with all of my free time. In addition to my scrapebooking, Marc and I thought this would be fun and would be a decent creative outlet for me. And keep me from purchasing more jeans that I don't need.

Marc and I realize we are not nearly as exciting as 2 little boys but we do get ourselves into a few funny shenanigans now and then (thus the title of our blog) so we figured this would be the best way to share all of our honeymoon stories and some pictures, it's also a good way for us to weed through pictures so we don't bore our friends and family with 5,000 pictures as we (by we, I mean my husband), are known to do.

Now let me explain briefly what a Zimmerman Shenanigan is, it is usually some crazy situation that is started by my husband, that I have to get us out of. I have been known to instigate a shenanigan every now and then but they are a direct result of hanging out with Marc, I never got into shenanigans before we met. But they are fun and we have a good time laughing about them as do the rest of our family so we are spreading the joy now.
