Friday morning Marc dropped me off at the airport for my trip to Indianapolis to visit some of my college and sorority girlfriends. I went out to attend my friend Jennifer’s (aka Woody) baby shower but I also got to meet a couple of other sorority sister’s new babies at the same time.
My flight out was pretty much the flight from hell. American Airlines cancelled my flight to Indianapolis while I was enroute to Chicago (and called me at home to tell me they cancelled it – yeah that was useful) so when I got there (1 ½ late) I thought I missed my flight but in fact it had been cancelled. They had me booked on a flight the next morning at 10 AM (it was about 1 PM), clearly that would not work for me, I had a baby shower to get to, a Woody to see, and babies to cuddle. I got on the phone with American Airlines (who was a pleasure to deal with as usual – can you sense the sarcasm?). After the “customer service” women kept insisting that there was nothing they could do because it was weather related (Chicago was cold but crystal clear and I called my friend in Indy and it was nice there too), I told her the Saturday flight would not work for me, I needed to be on the 6:05 (the only flight not cancelled Friday). Coincidentally, a seat opened up while I was on the phone. I was very grateful for this because my other option was to rent a car and drive to Indy (about a 4 hour drive). So I arrived in Indy finally, 4 hours late to see my friend, Michelle, also known as my Ralsto or Red-Dawg, waiting patiently for me just past security.
We high-tailed it over to Woody and her husband Nate’s house for some Pizza Express cheese sticks (a Bloomington favorite) and pizza. Woody looks awesome! We got to see the baby’s nursery which is absolutely adorable and all of the fun baby girl clothes that she already has. The pink and brown were the cutest. We hung out for a bit and Woody gave me two IU shirts as a thank you for coming, which was totally unnecessary because I wouldn’t miss my prego Woody for the world. We caught up on stuff and then called it a night.
Saturday morning it was surprisingly warm in Indy for February (probably the 40s) and Ralsto and I went to the Bakehouse for breakfast. The Bakehouse is another Bloomington favorite that has opened a location in Indy then we headed to our friend Jessica’s house to help her set up for the baby shower. The theme was “Pamper Yourself.” We also got to meet little Joshua, Jessica’s son, who just turned 1 month old over the weekend. He was absolutely adorable (mostly because he didn’t cry, poop or barf while I held him). Jessica had him dressed like a little man in khaki cargos and a cute little sweater with a matching hat, he was absolutely adorable. We set up and then the guests started arriving for the shower. Jessica had made an adorable rattle cake from scratch (who does that with a newborn in the house?) that was awesome. Woody got tons of good loot for the baby. Then Shawn, another sorority sister gave anyone who wanted it manicures. She gives amazing hand massages.
I also got to meet Miss Maggie, another sorority sister, Leah’s baby who is 4 months old now. She is the cutest little girl. Maggie and I had a major giggle fest that started with her hiccups. She was laughing hysterically and drooling all over me. She was a funny little girl. I think I am going to have to plan some more business trips to Chicago so I can see the little cutie some more.
And most of all, all the new moms and soon-to-be moms look fabulous!
After the shower, Ralsto and I helped clean up and then we played with Joshua a little bit more before we headed back to Ralsto’s place for a quick change for dinner with Woody, Nate, and 2 of Woody’s high school friends.
And then it was back at the airport and on a flight back home. I had to pull in my flight from tonight to this morning so I could get back for some meetings on Monday. It was a bummer but you have to do what you have to do. It was a super quick but very fun weekend. Fortunately we have a baby visit to look forward to, Marc and I will go out to Indy after Woody has her baby, hopefully for an extended weekend so we go make a trip to Bloomington and spend some quality time with Woody, Nate and the new baby.
