Who is this girl???

Riley is quite the character.  At our last ultrasound the Dr asked about her to get a gauge for how big she was and if she ever caught up.  When I told him she was still 10th percentile on weight and 12th on height he asked if she was meeting all of her milestones.  I said yes and that's she actually ahead on many of her developments (speech and fine motor skills) and he said "well good things come in small packages."  I told him that "what Riley lacks in size, she certainly makes up for in personality."  I think this photo pretty much sums up how big her personality really is:

Riley is very excited about her birthday that is coming up (it's been coming up for about 9 months now!) but she is beyond ecstatic and put on her shades and got her cupcakes ready as we were getting ready to go to the pumpkin patch and was singing happy birthday to herself and then making us sing her happy birthday!  This girl is too much!

Better Late than Never I Say

Well we were in San Diego when Riley hit her 2 years 8 month mark.  I know I say this every month but seriously, where is my 4lbs of Fury going???  I can't believe in 4 months (well less now since I'm 2 weeks late with this post), that my baby girl will be 3!  3!?!  How did that happen???  Riley is completely hilarious these days, when she's not embarking on her Terrible 3s, that is.  She is either utterly sweet and lovable or completely obnoxious and rotten!!!  But in general she is such a delight and so fun.  Now that she is speaking in sentences and having conversations with us, we never know what is going to come out of her little mouth.  Her favorite sayings right now: "Oopsie, I tooted in my underwear!"  (Yes, I know we shouldn't laugh but it is freaking hilarious coming out of her mouth!  And yes, she is now in underwear 100% of the time except for naps and sleeping where she still wears a pull-up, woohoo!).  She also like to say "Hey guys!"  One day I walked into day care and she was leading a group of her friends in a game of "Mr. Clown" and she goes: "Hey guys, watch me, I can do a somersault!"  And before I knew it they were all copying Riley.  She's also been know to say "Hey guys, wait for me!"  We seriously look at her and wonder where on earth she came from, she has such confidence and a way of drawing a room to her that Marc and I marvel at her because we certainly don't have the confidence and leadership that Riley does.  One of her friend's dads commented to me at a birthday party that she was the "future president of America," to which I responded "God help this country if she is!"  But seriously, politics aside, I think this country could definitely do a lot worse than have my RiRi as it's leader!

But for now, we're working on getting her past 25lbs and putting another month behind us. Here's her chair picture:

Notice Riley's new shoes, those are Skechers Twinkle Toe shoes.  When we were in San Diego my parents wanted to buy Riley a pair of new shoes so we went into Stride Rite because with Riley's foot history I am all about practical shoes and they were having a big sale.  Well we walk in and Riley was like "I want sparkly shoes."  I was like "Ok."  I found a pair of silver and pink sneakers that I thought I could convince her were sparkly and they were on sale for $20 and came in wides.  Well lucky for Riley they didn't have her 5.5 (freakishly small feet, remember!).  So my parents suggested we go over to Nordstrom.  So we headed over and we were scoping out the shoes, Riley was still talking about sparkly shoes but now she wanted lights too (I have no idea where this desire came from!) and we found a pair of Pumas that light up, I know Pumas fit her well because they are wider but we didn't really like them.  So we found another pair of Pumas and a pair of Tom's (to match my Tom's).  Riley insisted on having "sparkly light up shoes," and in the back of my head I knew 2 things that a) they probably wouldn't come in a size 5.5 because that's the size of a 9 month's foot, and b) they definitely weren't going to come in wide.  I saw the Sketchers but they were in the back so I figured they would be out of the line of site for Riley, WRONG!  This 2 1/2 year old is way smarter than her mommy.  She grabs them, "Say I found them!" and runs to the sales guy to tell him she found them.  Again, who is this child and where did she come from!?!  So I'm thinking, great this is going to be a temper tantrum of epic proportions.  So I talk to the guy and first start out with the size, he tells me they start at 5s, score 1 for us, then I tell him about her wide foot problem, I learn Skechers run wide, score 2 for us!  Now we just need them to have them in stock.  He comes out with the Tom's, the Pumas, AND the Skechers!  What!?!  Did the stars really align for this little girl???  And better yet us who won't have to thwart a temper tantrum.  So I try to get her to try on the Tom's no luck, she doesn't care about matching mommy anymore when there are a pair of sparkly, light up shoes on the line!  So we try them on, I swear the minute that shoe hit her foot her entire face lit up, she squealed with delight, and she said "They fit!  I just love them!"  (Although I think if they didn't fit she would have said they did anyway!)  And in that moment even Daddy couldn't say no to her complete joy so Nana and Poppy did not stand a chance at saying no!  Riley walked through the airport with complete pride that afternoon and I have never heard so many compliments on a pair of shoes!  She even insisted on napping with them on.  They are most certainly her most prized possession.  We're still trying to figure out where and when she saw these "sparkly, light up shoes" and decided that she wanted them.   I did notice in day care the other day that on of her new friends, Sophie, had a pair on so I'm thinking there, but Sophie is very new to the class and much younger and she usually looks up to older girls but there's still that possibility since Sophie has older sisters.  My child, the mystery!
