Jacob, What Does the Fox Say?
Jacob does great tricks these days, he's talking up a storm now (phew), even day care stopped us yesterday and told us how much more he's talking. He LOVES to tell us what sounds animals say and I'm not sure if you've heard that incredibly annoying song "What Does the Fox Say?" but the kids love it and Jacob sings along to it. Anyway, I've taught him that elephants say "toot toot" and raise their trunks so he pretends his arm is a trunk, he also tells us what the fox says (according to the song at least). If you haven't heard it yet, you can hear it here. And sorry because it will be stuck in your head FOREVER! He didn't particularly want to perform for me on camera (probably because of fear that it would be on the internet forever for his college buddies to google and haunt him with forever) but you get the idea, he does great tricks!

New Trick
This is Jacob's new trick, I must say I absolutely love it and can not get enough of it. He usually raises his hand when he says this, sometimes if I am lucky, both hands, he's annoyed with me here because I was trying to capture it on video so no arm raising but I promise he does raise his hand when he answers my question!
Jacob has been talking a ton more! He even said Tuesday morning "Ahpane on my bah!" He's obsessed with airplanes and his bahs (pacifiers) so he was elated to realize there are a couple with airplanes on them.

It Was Only A Matter of Time...
Unit "No" became his favorite word.

Jacob Talking On The Phone
Jacob is obsessed with 2 things right now: His Dada and the phone. He pretends everything is a phone and pretends to be talking to Dada whenever he can. Marc called from his trip last night and Jacob snatched the phone from Riley and began talking to him. And yes, Riley speaking over Jacob is pretty typical of our house whenever Jacob is trying to communicate and getting attention for it. No wonder Jacob is behind on speech!

Ah Bumpers
Riley has started saying "Ah Bumpers" when something spills, breaks or when something doesn't go her way. We thought it was cute so we started saying it as well. Yesterday I was getting Jacob out of the bath and his snack fell out of the bowl and I said "Ah Bumpers!" and guess who was repeating me all night? Riley also says "Ah boop" from Despicable Me and he was repeating that as well though got camera shy for that phrase. Guess, I can worry a little less about is vocabulary!
In other news, we've been trying to teach Riley my phone number in case she ever gets lost, etc and last night I was brushing her hair and she said "Mommy, I know your number" and proceeded to recite it to me perfectly! I was shocked. When Marc got home I told her to tell him my number and she recited it again. When Marc asked her how she knew my number her response was "Well, I'm smart, I'm in Pre-School C." She's had some good one liners these days, I really need to re-start my list of Riley-isms!

Jacob, What's Your Name?
Jacob's teachers told me last week that he's been talking more and that he can say his name. I didn't believe it so I asked him Friday what his name was and sure enough he can say it! They said sometimes you can't understand him but most of the time you can, they were so right! Examples of both below! The bagel he's eating doesn't help with clarity but you get a couple of Jacob's in there! :)
I'm still somewhat concerned about his verbal skills, though, like the Dr suggested I'm going to give him until 21 months to see if it picks up. It's hard since Riley was speaking sentences at 18 months and he still grunts and whines and points most of the time. He understands everything but the words aren't all there. Except...Marc brought him a new Puppy book home from Austin and we were reading it before bed last night and he pointed to a slipper on the page and said "bue" (blue). His teacher had told me he was repeating blue in circle time the other day and he un-aided pointed at the blue slipper and told me it was blue. I was surprised because Riley didn't know her colors until after 2, or she may have know them and was just pretending she didn't, she likes to do that with a lot of things. He also pointed to bubbles on the page and said "bubbahs!" So he's slowly picking up words, I'm just not convinced at the pace he should be. I know he's going to start talking someday and never stop but I just want to make sure he's not behind. Always something to worry about!

Screamer
Jacob has turned into a screamer, I think he's figured out that screaming is his best bet to get noticed over the commotion Riley generates. It's funny when we're at home but usually inopportune when not at home. Monday at day care they said he had been screaming all day and well they were pretty much over it! He usually screams when he wants something, i.e. food, bottle, to be held so it is usually warranted to his defense! Sunday Jacob was sitting on Marc's lap with a bowl of Cheerios and he screamed when he was ready for another one, I caught one of the screams but this went on over and over again.

Conversations with Aunt Jill
Sunday Riley talked to her Aunt Jill, it was adorable seeing her have a conversation on the phone, she even has the pacing down like a pro! I missed the really cute part when she was telling Aunt Jill about her new monkey that she got Saturday and put the phone up to the monkey's ear, just incase monkey wanted to talk to Aunt Jill too!

What's Your Name?
We've been working with Riley on saying her name, for a while Riley was pretty tough for her to say so she called herself "YaYa." But I think she's got it now!
PS: How cute is her hair in a pony tail!?!
